Universal thinks we’re stupid.

Sorcerer idiot poster

At least they did back in 1977. Or maybe they decided that someone who’d want to see a movie about trucks and explosives and mud wouldn’t know how to read.

For some reason, this poster always makes me mad.

About Toby

I'm a writer. And a dad. And a husband. And a record collector. And a movie geek (if the movies are old). And I really wish I had a hot rod.

I could be wrong here, but I was always under the impression this poster was created after the film was released in response to a large number of people walking out and demanding their money back opening weekend because they thought it was a subtitled “foreign” film etc. Any way to confirm if it was released before or after opening day?

I think you’re right, it was a Band-Aid applied after opening. It’s listed as the “C” sheet.

So I guess instead of saying “Universal thinks we’re stupid,” it should’ve said “Universal found out we’re stupid.”

YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE. Audience members who are twats are warned that this film was made with a non-twat viewership in mind, and therefore contains scenes and themes that twats may find confusing or irritating. We apologise for the inconvenience.
